Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5 S Pen Can Be Irreversibly Damaged If Stored Wrongly (video)

Potential owners of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will have to be extra careful about using the accompanying S-Pen. It appears that inserting the stylus into the slot the wrong way will cause the several features to stop working.

The problem was first discovered by Android Police, who inserted the S-Pen with the blunt end in first. This caused the spring mechanism that holds the S-Pen in place to clamp down on the wrong part of the stylus, and trapped it in place. The S-Pen can be yanked free from this position, but doing so causes the S-Pen detection features to stop working.

Nobody is sure why this happens yet, and Samsung has yet to comment on the matter. However, the problem mainly stems from the fact that the S-Pen has a uniform thickness which allows it be inserted into the port wrongly. Essentially, this may have more to do with Samsung overestimating the amount of attention people pay to their stylus.

The Note 5 isn’t fully launched globally yet, and so it is difficult to tell if this issue will be widespread. It would be scare mongering to claim that Samsung needs to urgently address the problem, but those planning on buying the Note 5 should take note of this issue. Essentially meaning that you shouldn’t let careless people mess around with your brand new phablet.
